Each Hebrew letter has a numeric value and the word chai, meaning life, has a total value of 18. When giving tzedakah, it is traditional to give in multiples of chai. Líchaim!
 Tzedakah (Donation) Arrangements

Tzedakah is the Jewish ethical practice of giving money and other material goods to those in need. It derives from the Hebrew root-word meaning "that which is right and just." Giving tzedakah is often done during the High Holy Days season, but can be done at any time of the year. Keneset HaLev welcomes everyone and does not turn anyone away for lack of funds. However, by becoming a member, purchasing High Holy Day tickets, or simply contributing what you can when you can, you will not only ensure that our Shabbat and High Holy Days services will continue to be here for you, but also for others in the community unable to make a donation at this time.

Keneset Ha Lev is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization, so your contributions are tax deductible. If you need a letter for your tax records, our Treasurer can provide one for you. We have received donations in the past ranging from $4 to $5,000--no contribution is too big or too small!

For those who prefer to donate their time and spiritual energy, we have many volunteer opportunities. These can be as simple as lending a hand stuffing envelopes, or as complex as joining the Communications/PR committee. We also encourage community involvement in our services. If you would like to help lead services through story, song, or prayer, contact us at (415) 339-SHUL or info@kenesethalev.org
